***UPDATE on LEVI’S CALL*** (02/04/10 – Headquarters) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children’s Unit in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations has issued a Levi’s Call for 4 year old Christian Guevera of Mableton, Georgia.

DESCRIPTION: Hispanic male, 3’00” tall, 30 lbs, brown eyes, and brown hair described as shaggy and long. He was last seen wearing pajamas with “cars” (Like the movie)

According to investigators, at 0915 hours Christian Guevera was abducted at 750 Six Flags Drive S.W., lot 37 in Mableton, Georgia. At this time it is believed that Guevera was abducted by two Hispanic males. It is believed the males are traveling in a white Chevy Suburban.

***UPDATE*** Christian Guevera was located in Gwinnett County, Georgia in good condition. Several men have been detained as a result of this incident. The Levi’s Call has been cancelled. Guevera is currently en-route to a local area hospital to be examined for precautionary reasons; where he is expected to be reunited with his mother.

The investigation into those detained as a result of this incident continues, and charges for those involved are forthcoming.

The Cobb County Police Department would like to thank the Gwinnett County Police Department, Gwinnett County Sheriffs Office and the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in this investigation.

When they arrived on the scene, they located the body of a deceased male in the turn lane, just east of the intersection.

Investigators have since determined that the male, (who has not been positively identified) was attempting to cross from the north side to the south side of Veterans Memorial Highway against the traffic signal, when he was struck by a gray 2004 Pontiac which was eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway. That driver along with a witness to the crash immediately stopped to report the incident.

***UPDATE***
Investigators have positively identified the deceased male as 55 year old James Keith Lewandowski of Beverly Hills, Florida. Investigators have notified Lewandowski’s next of kin of this incident.

2) Citizens Public Safety Academy Program (Headquarters) The Cobb County Department of Public Safety is announcing its spring session of the Citizens Public Safety Academy.

This program provides an opportunity for Cobb County citizens to have an inside look at the various units which comprise the Department of Public Safety. During the course, participants will experience the Emergency Communications Center, Fire and Police organizations, and the role each plays in protecting the citizens of Cobb County.

There is no charge for the 12-week program, which is scheduled twice a year in the spring and fall. Classes are typically held every Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the location changes from week-to-week depending on what is being discussed or introduced to the class participants.

The “2010 Spring Session” is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

Armed Robbery (01/28/10 @ 1200 hours in Zone 1) The Cobb County Police Department’s Robbery Squad is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred at 4300 Bells Ferry Road in Kennesaw, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male entered the Bank of America and approached a teller station. After being greeted by the teller the male demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency the suspect fled on foot. The male was last seen running into a wooded area behind the bank and a QuikTrip gas station.

PERPETRATOR: White male, approximately 20-24 years old, 6’00” tall with a slim build and he was clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a light colored blazer, white sweater, light colored cowboy hat, gloves and sunglasses.

Armed Robbery (01/22/10 @ 0050 hours in Zone 1) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred at 4160 Cherokee Street in Kennesaw, Georgia.

According to investigators, the male clerk was standing behind the counter at the Texaco station when two males entered the business. At some point, one of the two males pulled out a shotgun and pointed it at the clerk. Both perpetrators then moved behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the business on foot, southbound through the parking lot.

PERPETRATOR(s): Black male, 6’00” tall, described as having a thin build. He was last seen wearing all black clothing along with a ski mask and gloves. He was armed with a shotgun.

Black male, 5’08” tall, described as having a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black and gray hooded jacket, a blue ski mask and gloves.

The clerk did sustain a slight injury to his hand but refused to be taken to a hospital.

2nd ***UPDATE*** on the Homicide which occurred on Tuesday; January 19, 2010 in Zone 2. The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is updating information on the homicide, which was discovered at 1726 hours at 2050 Austell Road S.W., in Marietta, Georgia this past Tuesday evening.

According to investigators, the husband of the victim, (who has been identified as 46 year old Debra A. Williams of Marietta, Georgia) arrived home to their apartment at the Crescent Square Apartment complex to discover his wife deceased.

After completing the autopsy on Wednesday afternoon, the Cobb County Medical Examiners Office determined that Ms. Williams died as a result of multiple stab wounds.

This information is now being released to the public by the Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit in addition to information about a possible vehicle (and occupant), which was seen near the homicide scene.

Detectives are looking for a late 80’s model maroon or burgundy (box style) Ford Crown Victoria. They also believe that it was being driven by an older black male in his 40’s to early 50’s. He may also have a gold tooth and frequent the Olive Springs Road area in Marietta, Georgia.

Armed Robbery (01/21/10 @ 2140 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Robbery Squad is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred on Drennon Avenue in Austell, Georgia.

According to investigators, the victim was attempting to make a delivery for Pizza Hut to Drennon Avenue and upon his arrival he discovered the delivery location was an empty townhome. The victim was then confronted by two armed males. The males took the food and cash the victim had on his person. The males fled the area on foot. No injuries were reported in this incident.

PERPETRATOR(S): Two black males in their teens to early 20’s. Both were wearing all black clothing including hooded sweat jackets. One male was armed with a knife, the other armed with a handgun.

Food delivery businesses are reminded to be careful when unknown customers make requests or inquiries regarding money.

According to investigators, the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a male who told them that when he got home at the Crescent Square Apartment complex, he discovered the body of his deceased wife inside their apartment.

Within minutes of receiving the dispatch, officers from the Uniform Division of Zone 2 arrived on the scene and confirmed the information.

More details are expected to be released tomorrow after the Cobb County Medical Examiners Office conducts an autopsy.

***UPDATE*** The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is updating the homicide, which was discovered late yesterday afternoon. The Cobb County Medical Examiners Office is currently in the process of completing the autopsy and they have positively identified the victim as 46 year old Debra A. Williams of Marietta, Georgia. The manner of death is not being released by investigators at this time.

Homicide Investigation (01/19/10 @ 1726 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating an apparent homicide, which occurred at 2050 Austell Road S.W., in Marietta, Georgia.

Homicide Investigation ***UPDATE*** (01/17/10 @ 1815 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate an apparent homicide, which occurred at 1329 Ling Drive in Austell, Georgia.

According to investigators, personnel from the Cobb County Police Department and Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to a residence on Ling Drive in reference to a person down. When they arrived, they located the body of a male inside a bedroom of the home, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Yesterday afternoon, the Cobb County Medical Examiners Office positively identified the deceased male as 27 year old Danny Lee Robinson (Jr.) of College Park, Georgia.

Homicide/Arrest (01/15/10 – Headquarters) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit has made an arrest, in a cold case, of an individual accused of murder which occurred in 1995 at 1580 Old Hunters Trace in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, on 10/23/95 Nicholas Smith arrived home from school and inside of his residence he was stabbed multiple times with a knife. Responding officers found his mother, Karmen Smith, deceased at that location. Karmen Smith’s postmortem examination with autopsy found she died as a result of ligature strangulation. Nicholas Smith survived his injuries.

Recently, testing of forensic evidence resulted in the arrest of Waseem Anas Daker, a 32 year old male. Danker has been charged with Murder, 2-counts of Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Stalking and Burglary. Daker was taken into custody today in Gwinnett County and he is in the process of being transported back to Cobb County for processing.

***Update*** on Aggravated Assault (12/10/09 @ 2035 hours in Zone 4) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating an Aggravated Assault which occurred on Glasgow Road in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, a homeowner and his wife arrived at their home on Glasgow Road and exited their vehicle. The couple was approached by a group of males who were armed with handguns. The male homeowner displayed a weapon of his own and gunfire was exchanged between the homeowner and suspects.

As a result of gunfire, the male homeowner was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One suspect was also transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Another suspect who was not located at the scene was located at Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Raymond Reedy Jr., a 22 year old male from Atlanta, Georgia, was pronounced deceased at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Wayne Spear, a 19 year old male from Atlanta, Georgia, was treated for a gunshot wound at Emory Midtown Hospital. Spear has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.

Investigators have identified Willie Sinkfield, a 21 year old male from Atlanta, Georgia, as also being at the scene of the crime. Sinkfield has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.

At this time both Spear and Sinkfield are being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

***UPDATE***
During the course of their investigation the Crimes Against Persons Unit developed information which identified Jonathan Lindley, a 22 year old male, as having fled the scene. Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On 01/13/10 Jonathan Lindley was arrested by agents with the United States Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Lindley has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault and he is currently being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Burglary/Arrests (01/11/10 – Precinct 3) The Cobb County Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit of Precinct 2 in conjunction with the Criminal Investigations Unit of Precinct 3 have arrested 5 individuals in connection with a series of burglaries over a two month period in November and December 2009.

According to investigators, with the assistance of the Uniform Bureau of Precinct 3, detectives have charged five individuals in connection with 8 burglaries in the Favor Road/Smyrna Powder Springs Road areas of Marietta, Georgia. Notable property recovered by investigators includes weapons, jewelry, and video game consoles.

Anthony Brown (17 year old male from Marietta, Georgia)
Antoine Brown (21 year old male from Marietta, Georgia)
(2) Two Juvenile males from Marietta, Georgia

***UPDATE***Felony Murder(s)/Aggravated Assault(s) (01/12/10 @ 1357 hours in Zone 1) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a shooting, which occurred at 3011 Barrett Lakes Boulevard in Kennesaw, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male entered the property of Penske Truck Rental and Leasing armed with a handgun. The male began to walk towards the business and he opened fire on individuals at the location. As a result of the suspect’s actions, (5) five males were struck by gunfire.

After ceasing fire, the suspect fled the scene in a red pick-up truck. Cobb County Police Officers located the suspect in a pick-up truck traveling westbound on McCollum Parkway. Several officers responded to the location and conducted a high risk traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without incident on McCollum Parkway near West Duncan Road.

Two individuals have been pronounced deceased as a result of their injuries. Van Springer (59 year old male of Woodstock, Georgia) and Jaider Phillipe Marvlanda (43 year old male of Lawrenceville, Georgia) are deceased.

Roberto Gonzalez (31 year old male of Dallas, Georgia), Zachariah J. Werner (35 year old male of Kennesaw, Georgia), and Joshua B. Holbrook (27 year old male of Rome, Georgia) are currently located at WellStar Kennestone Hospital listed in critical condition.

The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit has secured an arrest warrant for Jessie James Warren (60 year old male from Temple, Georgia). At this time Warren has been charged with 2-counts of Murder, and 5-counts of Aggravated Assault.

Jessie James Warren is currently being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.

***UPDATE***
As a result of injuries sustained in this incident Roberto Gonzalez has been pronounced deceased at WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Gonzalez continues to remain on life support for organ donation per his wishes. Jessie James Warren will be charged with an additional count of Murder as a result of Gonzalez’s death.

1) Sexual Assault(s)/Warrant (01/07/10 – Headquarters) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit has secured an arrest warrant for an individual accused of sexually assaulting women at his business located at 4974 Austell Road in Austell, Georgia.

According to investigators, the Crimes Against Persons Unit received information from the Georgia Department of Corrections regarding females being sexually assaulted while they participated in the Mentor 1 (drug rehabilitation / anger management) program. After conducting an investigation an arrest warrant was issued for the owner/proprietor of Mentor 1.

At this time there is an outstanding arrest warrant for 48 year old Dwight Leon Futch of Douglasville, Georgia. Futch is not in custody at this time.

1) Armed Robbery (01/08/10 @ 0510 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred at 3635 Austell Road in Marietta, Georgia. According to investigators, two males entered the Waffle House and confronted a female employee at the cash register. After demanding and receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from her, both offenders were seen fleeing on foot behind the business. OFFENDER(s): Black male, 5’08” tall, 155 lbs. He was described as being “light skinned” and in his late teens. He had a slight goatee and was last seen wearing a black jacket (with a hood), black tennis shoes and he was armed with a handgun. Black male, 5’06” tall, 150 lbs. He was described as being in his late teens and had dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a green jacket (with a hood), dark blue jeans, and he had a gray scarf over his face.

2) Armed Robbery (01/07/10 @ 2214 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Robbery Squad is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred at 7200 Six Flags Parkway in Austell, Georgia. According to investigators, while a male and female were getting out of their car to make a delivery of Chinese food to the West Chase apartment complex, they were approached by three males. While the three males were robbing the employees of the food, one of them struck the male victim in the head with a handgun. The female victim was not injured and the male victim was treated and released at the scene. PERPETRATOR(s): Only described as three black males between 18-20 years of age. All were wearing dark clothing and one of the three was armed with a handgun. Anyone with information about either of the crimes is asked to call (770) 499-3945. 3)

Cobb County False Alarm Ordinance ***Update*** (01/08/10-Headquarters)
In July 2008, the Cobb County False Alarm Ordinance was passed requiring all business and residential alarms to be registered with the Cobb County Police Department. As of January 2010, approximately 46,000 alarms have been registered by either calling 1 (866) 902-7110 or by going to www.cobbcounty.org. In addition to filling out the registration form online for a new alarm, the same form may be used if there are any changes to an existing account.

Strong-arm Robbery (01/04/10 @ 1707 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Robbery Squad is investigating a strong-arm robbery, which occurred at 1255 Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male entered the Family Dollar store and approached the cash register as if to pay for his merchandise. As a female employee opened the register, the offender snatched an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency from it and fled from
the business on foot in an unknown direction.

OFFENDER: Black male, approximately 6’00” tall, described as having a medium build. He was thought to have been between 25-35 years of age and had a mustache and goatee. He was last seen wearing a green quilted jacket and a gray hooded sweatshirt. He also had on a black baseball cap (with a white brim) and an Atlanta Braves “A” logo on it.

Armed Robbery/Arrest (12/31/09 @ 0100 hours in Zone 1) The Cobb County Police Department’s Robbery Squad in conjunction with the Uniform bureau of Zone 1 has made an arrest of an individual accused of armed robbery at 840 Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw, Georgia.

According to investigators, on 12/28/09 a male approached the store manager of Cost Plus World Market while she was in the middle of the sales floor. The male discretely displayed a handgun that was tucked into his waistband. He demanded that the manager lead him to, and open the safe. The manager complied, and after receiving an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency the male had the manager leave the store with him.

On 12/31/09 officers B.R. Blakeney and J.W. Kurtz, who had knowledge of the case, made contact with a male matching the suspect description at a gas station on Barrett Parkway. Robbery Squad investigators continued the investigation which led to the arrest of Mark Joshua Ruark, a 25 year old male from Jonesboro, Georgia.

Ruark has been charged with Armed Robbery and Kidnapping. Ruark is currently being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Homicide/Arrest (12/29/09 @ 1215 hours in Zone 3) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a homicide which occurred at 1991 South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, Georgia.

According to investigators, the victim and a companion were confronted in the South Cobb Village Shopping Center by an armed male. The male fired several shots at the victim as she exited her companion’s vehicle. The victim was struck several times and subsequently died as a result of her injuries.

The male companion attempted to escape in his vehicle, and he was involved in a motor vehicle collision in the parking lot. He sustained minor injuries. The perpetrator fled the scene in a white van.

The female victim has been identified as 32 year old Angelica Robledo De La Rosa of Marietta Georgia.

Through the course of their investigation, it became apparent to investigators that the relationship between Angelica Robledo De La Rosa and the armed male was a stalking situation. Investigators uncovered the male attempted to pursue a relationship with the victim; however she continually denied his requests. A series of disturbing incidents, over an extended period of time, were initiated by the male towards to victim, however they were never reported to authorities.

Investigators were able to identify the armed male and received information he fled the area. Investigators contacted agencies along the Interstate 10 corridor and provided lookout information regarding the male and his vehicle. Officers in Gautier, Mississippi located the white van the male was traveling in and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The suspect was driving the vehicle and he was taken into custody.

Investigators have secured an arrest warrant for Armando Soto, a 46 year old male. Soto has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault. Soto is currently being held in the Pascagoula, Mississippi Adult Detention Center.

Fatality Crash Investigation (12/30/09 @ 0140 hours in Zone 4) The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is investigating a fatality crash, which occurred on Piedmont Road near Piedmont Enclave Court in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, a black 2003 Chevrolet S-10 was traveling eastbound on Piedmont Road in excess of the posted speed limit. The driver attempted to negotiate a curve and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle collided with a tree in the median.

The driver of the Chevrolet S-10 has been identified as 22 year old Michael R. Holland of Marietta, Georgia. Mr. Holland was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Bank Robbery/Motor Vehicle Hijacking (12/23/09 @ 1450 hours in Zone 2)> The Cobb County Police Department’s Robbery Squad continues to investigate a bank robbery and motor vehicle hijacking, which occurred at 2693 Powder Springs Road in Powder Springs, Georgia.

According to investigators, two males entered the Bank of America and forced the customers and bank employees to lie on the floor. After one of the two perpetrators took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business, both fled out the front door where they hijacked a dark green Nissan Xterra from a male in the parking lot. The vehicle was recovered a short time later after it was seen southbound on Anderson Farm Road.

PERPETRATOR(s): Two black males 5’11”-6’00” tall. Both males were described as being in their late 30’s to late 40’s. Both had gold teeth and were dressed in black “hoodies” and blue jeans. Along with being armed with handguns, both had on masks.

Aggravated Battery/Child Cruelty Arrest (12/22/09 @ 1545 hours) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit has arrested a mother and her boyfriend for aggravated battery and cruelty to a child.

According to investigators, yesterday afternoon they were contacted by a representative of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in reference to a two month old female with numerous fractures. Detectives responded to the hospital and subsequent information from the examination of the child revealed that the child had some twenty broken bones to include a skull fracture.

As a result, the biological mother identified as 22 year old Antionette White of Marietta, Georgia and her boyfriend (and biological father) 32 year old Kevin Straight of Marietta, Georgia were arrested at the Crimes Against Children Office after being interviewed by investigators. There was also a one year old child in the home that was removed and placed into protective custody.

Antionette White has been charged with Aggravated Battery, Felony Cruelty to Children and 2nd Degree Cruelty to Children.

Kevin Straight has been charged with 2nd Degree Cruelty to Children.

Both have been processed through the Cobb County Detention Center and are being held on a $100,000 and $50, 000 bonds respectfully.

Armed Robbery (12/22/09 @ 1912 hours in Zone 4) The Cobb County Police Department’s Robbery Squad continues to investigate an armed robbery, which occurred at 2900 Delk Road in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male entered the Clover Cleaners through a rear door and approached a male employee. After demanding and receiving money from the employee, the armed male fled from the business on foot in an unknown direction.

OFFENDER: Black male, 5’08”-5’09” tall, described as being in his late teens to early 20’s. He had an average build and was last seen wearing a black winter jacket (with brown fur lined hood), dark pants and a black mask. He was also armed with a handgun.

Murder/Suicide (12/21/09 @ 0900 hours in Zone 5) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate a murder/suicide, which occurred at 627 Friendship Church Road in Powder Springs, Georgia.

According to investigators, the Uniform Division of Zone 5 was dispatched to the residence by the Cobb County Emergency Communications Center after they received a 9-1-1 call that two adults appeared to be deceased inside the house. When officers arrived on the property, they met with a family member to confirm the deaths of the male and female just inside the front portion of the home.

Detectives were notified and with the assistance of the Cobb County Medical Examiners Office, investigators have confirmed the identities of the deceased husband and wife as 66 year old William “Archie” Nix and 48 year old Brenda Nix. Investigators believe that Mr. Nix first shot his wife, and then himself.

Fatality Crash Investigation (12/20/09 @ 1321 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is investigating a fatal crash, which occurred on Interstate 20 eastbound between Factory Shoals Road and Riverside Parkway in Austell, Georgia.

According to investigators, a 2003 silver Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound when it experienced a tire failure. The vehicle overturned and three of the six occupants were ejected.

One occupant of the vehicle, Adriana Gil a 29 year old female of Forest Park, Georgia, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Another occupant of the vehicle, Rocia Jimenez, a 29 year old female of Forest Park, Georgia, was pronounced deceased at Atlanta Medical Center after succumbing to her injuries.

The other four occupants were transported to Atlanta Medical Center and Grady Hospital with serious injuries.

This collision is still under investigation and charges are pending.

According to investigators, a male entered the BB&T bank and walked up to a teller. The male verbally demanded cash from her teller station. The teller observed the male reveal a handgun from the hooded sweatshirt he was wearing. The male received an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency from the teller and fled the bank. The male was lat seen running west to an adjacent parking lot. He may have entered a white pickup truck with a chrome tool chest.

PERPETRATOR: White male in his mid 20’s, 5’07” to 5’08” tall. He was last seen wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and a camouflage hat with the “Under Armour” symbol stitched in yellow. He was armed with a handgun.

Wayne Spear, a 19 year old male from Atlanta, Georgia, was treated for a gunshot wound at Emory Midtown Hospital. Spear has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.

Investigators have identified Willie Sinkfield, a 21 year old male from Atlanta, Georgia, as also being at the scene of the crime. Sinkfield has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.

At this time both Spear and Sinkfield are being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Fatality Crash Investigation (12/10/09 @ 1428 hours in Zone 4) The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is investigating a traffic crash, which occurred at 2300 Jamerson Road in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, a brown 1997 Dodge Caravan was traveling northbound on Trickum Road south of Jamerson Road. The driver left his lane of travel, exited the right roadway edge and collided with a wooden fence. The vehicle continued in a northeasterly direction and collided with a structure on the property of 2300 Jamerson Road.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan has been identified as 75 year old Mark E. Cantrel of Woodstock, Georgia. Mr. Cantrel was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

At this time it is believed that Mr. Cantrel suffered from a medical condition prior to the collision, and his death is believed to be natural.

According to investigators, a gray 2005 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Ebenezer Road. While negotiating a curve the driver lost control, left the roadway, and collided with a tree.

The driver has been identified as a 16 year old male from Marietta, Georgia. The male was transported by air ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center and he is listed in critical condition.

According to investigators speed is a contributing factor in this crash.

Robbery (12/05/09 @ 1105 hours in Zone 1) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate a robbery by sudden snatching, which occurred at 735 Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male entered the Shane Company and asked a female employee to see a diamond. When she removed the diamond from the display case, the offender grabbed it and ran from the business. The offender was last seen getting into a white Hyundai Elantra which was being driven by another male.

PERPETRATOR(s): Black male, 6’03” tall, 175 lbs. He was described as being light complected between 25-30 years of age. He had short light brown hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing a black seat suit with black sneakers.

The driver of the Hyundai was only described as being a black male.

Waned Person Located / Search Warrant Service (12/01/09 @ 1100 hours in Zone 2) The Criminal Investigations Unit of Precinct-2 continues to investigate a suspected chop shop operation at 4960 Sullivan Road in Powder Springs, Georgia.

According to investigators, on 12/01/09 Probation Officers from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Cobb County Police Department in serving a probation warrant for Herbert David Gann, a 42 year old male, at 4960 Sullivan Road. During the warrant service Tim Wilkerson, a 50 year old male, and Tavia Hershberger, a 32 year old female, in addition to Gann were arrested without incident.

Further investigation led to detectives obtaining a search warrant for the property of 4960 Sullivan Road. During the search warrant execution investigators seized stolen vehicles, car parts, and weapons, which amounted to nearly 100 items of suspected stolen property.

On 12/04/09 a second search warrant was executed at the residence and more than 200 items suspected as either stolen, or used in the operation of a chop shop were removed by investigators and the Evidence Unit. Vehicles and vehicle engines were also seized by investigators for further investigation.

Herbert Gann was arrested for the violation of probation warrant through Douglas County. Tim Wilkerson and Tavia Hershberger were each arrested on outstanding warrants. Additional charges against Gann are pending.

Death Investigation/Arrest (12/06/09 @ 0715 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit has made an arrest of a mother, accused of being involved in the death of her infant.

According to investigators, officers from the Uniform Division of Zone 2 were dispatched early Sunday morning to Ling Drive in Austell, Georgia to assist in a medical call. When they arrived, they met with personnel from the Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services after they had been taken to the body of a deceased infant male inside the residence.

As a result of a thorough investigation coupled with the preliminary results from the Cobb County Medical Examiners Office, yesterday afternoon detectives charged 28 year old Seron Edshon Shepherd with Involuntary Manslaughter-(M), Cruelty to a Child 2nd Degree-(F), and Deprivation of a Minor-(F), in the death of her 7 month old infant son.

Additionally, Seron Edshon Shepherd has been charged with (3) counts of Deprivation of a Minor-(M), and (3) counts of Reckless Conduct-(M), which involve her 21 month and 7 year old sons, and her 4 year old daughter.

The three surviving children are healthy have been safely placed with the Department of Family Services.

Late yesterday evening, Seron Edshon Shepherd was taken into custody by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, and has since been processed into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

MATTIE’S CALL (12/06/09-Headquarters) The Cobb County Police Department in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations has issued a “MATTIE’S CALL” for 84 year old Loyd Hitt of Marietta, Georgia.

DESCRPITION: White male, 5’10” tall, 155 lbs. He has gray hair, brown eyes and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a dark colored suit.

Mr. Hitt dropped his wife off at church on 12/06/09 at 0900 hours near the intersection of East Piedmont Road and Canton Road in Marietta, Georgia and he has not been seen since. Mr. Hitt was driving a forest green 1996 Oldsmobile Delta (GA tag 609HRA). There are “Alabama” and “Piedmont Baptist Church” stickers on the rear of the vehicle. Mr. Hitt suffers from several medical issues and he may be cognitively impaired due to Diabetes.

According to investigators, a male and female entered Citi-Trends Clothing Store and gathered several items of merchandise throughout the store as though they were shopping. The suspects then approached a cash register and the male produced a handgun. The male demanded money from the register, and after receiving an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency the suspects fled the business.

PERPETRATOR(S): Black male 20-25 years of age, 6’03” tall with a thin build and short hair. He was last seen wearing a brown shirt, black pants, and black and brown work boots. He had a tattoo on the right side of his neck, and he was armed with a handgun. Black female 18-25 years of age, 5’03” with a medium build. She was last seen wearing dark clothing and a dark colored cap.

Eavesdropping-Surveillance Arrest (11/18/09 @ 1100 hours-Headquarters) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit has made an arrest of an C.R.N.A. (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) accused of unlawful surveillance and eavesdropping.

On Wednesday; November 18, 2009 investigators secured a warrant for 47 year old Paul Serdula of Marietta, Georgia accusing him of setting up a recording device in the female bathroom of a dental office located at 600 Galleria Parkway in Atlanta, Georgia. (Detectives took a second warrant on Thursday; November 19, 2009 for the same charge involving two additional victims at the same location.) The recording device (which was set up in the bathroom) was removed as evidence. As detectives from the High Tech Crime Squad conducted a preview of the confiscated items, hundreds of videos, (some of which were of potential victims) were discovered revealing inappropriate criminal conduct against persons who were under anesthesia at various medical or dental facilities.

As a result of that investigation at the dental office, investigators seized (with a search warrant) from Serdula’s home, other phones and evidentiary items which will be analyzed for evidence.

Because detectives have not been able to identified any of the victims from their subsequent investigation (other than the dental office), they are asking for the publics assistance.

Anyone who may have had a dental or medical procedure in which they were put under anesthesia is asked to contact that primary care physician who ordered the procedure to see if 47 year old Paul Serdula was the attending C.R.N.A. (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Paul Serdula was a contract C.R.N.A. He did not work directly for any dental or medical physician, but would have been contracted for his services.

Paul Serdula was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after detectives interviewed him regarding the dental office incident. He was transported to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center charged with (3cts.) of Eavesdropping-Surveillance (from the incidents at the dental office).

***UPDATE*** on the Fatality Crash Investigation (11/18/09 @ 2245 hours in Zone 4) The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is investigating a fatality crash involving a motorcyclist.

According to investigators, the driver of a 2007 Suzuki GSXR1000 motorcycle was engaged in a speed contest with the driver of a 2004 Honda VFR800 motorcycle while northbound on Canton Road in Marietta, Georgia. According to witnesses, the male driver of the Suzuki was weaving in and out of traffic at a very high rate of speed as he approached a white 1994 Mercury Villager Van which was also northbound on Canton Road. After the Suzuki sideswiped the left rear quarter panel of the Mercury, it redirected into the southbound lanes of Canton Road. At some point the driver separated from the motorcycle and was struck by a black 1999 Toyota Camry which was southbound on Canton Road. The motorcycle rider was deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Honda motorcycle has been identified as 34 year old David James Tipton of Marietta, Georgia. Mr. Tipton was arrested at the scene, transported to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Racing, Reckless Driving, D.U.I. (alcohol) and No Motorcycle Endorsement.

ATTENTION MEDIA: Yesterday evening, S.T.E.P. Investigators were able to make a positive identification of the deceased driver of the Suzuki motorcycle. He has been identified as 34 year old Joseph Cain Rivers of Roswell, Georgia.

Critical Injury Crash Investigation (11/18/09 @ 1824 hours in Zone 5) The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a critical injury crash, which occurred on Mars Hill Road at Camden Lake Parkway in Acworth, Georgia.

According to investigators, a 16 year old male from Acworth, Georgia was operating a black 1995 Toyota Corolla while northbound on Mars Hill Road. When he attempted to turn left onto Camden Lake Parkway, he failed to yield to the driver of a black 2001 Volkswagen Passat which was southbound on Mars Hill Road.

As a result of a collision in the intersection, three occupants of the Toyota (an 18 year old male from Ball Ground, Georgia, a 17 year old male and a 16 year old female, both from Acworth, Georgia) were injured. All three passengers were transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital (with the 16 year old female being in critical condition).

The driver of the Volkswagen has been identified as 79 year old Gilbert James (Sr.) of Woodstock, Georgia. He was treated and released at the scene and is not expected to be charged.

The 16 year old driver of the Toyota was arrested at the scene and transported to the Marietta Youth Detention Center. He has been charged with D.U.I. (Drugs-Less Safe), Failure to Yield While Turning Left and Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle.

Pedestrian Fatality Investigation (11/13/09 @ 1904 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit continues to investigate a pedestrian fatality collision, which occurred on Six Flags Drive near Six Flags Parkway in Austell, Georgia on Friday; November 13, 2009.

According to investigators, the driver of a green 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was westbound on Six Flags Drive when a male walked into the westbound travel lanes from the northern edge of the road. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 32 year old Lakesha Douglas of Austell, Georgia struck the male who had stepped out in front of her vehicle.

The male identified as 26 year old Juan Guadalupe Colon of Austell, Georgia was transported by ambulance to the Atlanta Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries at approximately 0304 hours on Saturday; November 14, 2009.

Investigators do not expect to file charges in this case and anyone with information about it is asked to call (770) 499-3987.

Armed Robbery (11/05/09 @ 0132 hours in Zone 1) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate an armed robbery, which occurred at 2445 Mall Boulevard in Kennesaw, Georgia.

According to investigators, two males entered the Applebee’s restaurant at closing time with their weapons drawn. The offenders demanded and received and undisclosed amount of cash from two employees before fleeing the area on foot in an unknown direction. Three other restaurant employees were able to flee out a back door of the business as the robbery was taking place.

PERPETRATOR(s): Black male, 5’10”-6’00” tall, approximately 250 lbs. He was armed with a shotgun and was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark bandanna which covered his face.

Armed Robbery/Arrest (11/05/09 @ 0530 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Uniform Division of Zone 2 has made an arrest of an individual, accused of robbing a business at 800 East/West Connector in Austell, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male (who was wearing a Halloween mask and was armed with a baseball bat) entered the C.V.S. Pharmacy. The suspect immediately approached the male employee at the cash register demanding money. After demanding and receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the business, the male fled from the area on foot.

While responding to the crime in progress, Zone 2 uniform Officer M.L. Owen observed a white 2005 Ford Focus parked off the side of Hicks Road. Within minutes, Officer Owen was able to locate and place the suspect into custody (without incident), as he was trying to make his way back to his getaway vehicle.

ARRESTED: Christopher Adams (a 28 year old male from Dallas, Georgia).

Christopher Adams is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Wearing a Mask or Hood, Armed Robbery and (2cts) of Aggravated Assault.

Armed Robbery/Arrest (11/04/09 @ 1510 hours in Zone 4) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit continues to investigate an armed robbery, which occurred at 1050 East Piedmont Road (Suite-A) in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, on Wednesday; November 4th, 2009 two males entered Kim’s Cleaners and inquired about picking up their mother’s dry cleaning. As the owner was telling the males that he did not have the items, one of the two suspects produced a handgun and demanded money from him. At the same time the second suspect went behind the cash register counter and pointed his handgun at the store owner demanding that he get money from the cash register. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects fled from the area in what was described as a gold Chevrolet Cavalier.

On Thursday; November 5th, 2009 after a lookout was placed to all police units regarding the gold Chevrolet Cavalier, Zone 3 Uniform Sergeant B.D. Smith spotted the car in the parking lot of the Marathon gas station off South Cobb Drive. With the assistance of other Zone 3 officers, a felony traffic stop was conducted on the driver and the two other occupants inside the car, as they drove into the Hickory Lakes Apartment complex in Smyrna, Georgia.

As a result, detectives were able to identify (by video from the Kim’s Cleaner robbery), 27 year old Derrius Lamonte Mack of Smyrna, Georgia. During the investigation, it was discovered that 25 year old Christopher Antonio Mack is the brother of Derrius Mack and that he was inside a nearby apartment in the same complex.

A search warrant was obtained for the apartment and Christopher Mack was taken into custody without incident by the Cobb County Police Department’s T.A.C. Unit. He was also identified (from the Kim’s Cleaner robbery video) as the second suspect in the robbery.

ARRESTED: Derrius Lamonte Mack (27 year old male from Smyrna, Georgia).

Christopher Antonio Mack (25 year old male from Smyrna, Georgia).

Both of the Mack brothers are currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center as each are charged with Armed Robbery, False Imprisonment and Aggravated Assault.

Note: Additional charges are pending against both for crimes they are accused of committing in unincorporated Cobb, Austell, and Atlanta jurisdictions.

Commercial Gambling Arrests (11/03/09-Headquarters) Agents from the Marietta/Cobb/Smyrna Organized Crime Intelligence Unit have charged two individuals involved in a commercial gambling operation.

Acting on a complaint about gambling, yesterday evening an undercover agent participated in a “Texas Hold’em poker game which was being held at a residence in the Vinings Forest Town Homes in Smyrna, Georgia. As a result of the undercover operation, 42 year old Paul Miller of Smyrna, Georgia was charged with Commercial Gambling (F), Keeping a Gambling Place (M) and Gambling (M).

Also charged with Commercial Gambling (F) and taken into custody with Mr. Miller was 33 year old Christopher George Soltes of Marietta, Georgia. As of 1300 hours this date, Christopher Soltes resigned his position as a police officer with the Cobb County Police Department.

Additionally, agents expect to charge five other individuals with Gambling (M).

Armed Robbery (11/04/09 @ 1220 hours in Zone 3) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred at 2909 Log Cabin Drive S.E. in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to investigators, two males entered the My Extra Attic business under the pretense of renting a unit. Within moments, one of the two perpetrators produced a pistol and demanded money from the store employee. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the perpetrators fled the area in what was described as a tan or gold vehicle.

PERPETRATOR(s): Two black males described as being between 26-32 years of age. One of the two males was armed with a pistol.

Armed Robbery (11/01/09 @ 1455 hours in Zone 5) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred at 1690 Powder Springs Road in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male entered the Subway and ordered a sandwich. As the offender was at the cash register, he produced a handgun and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash and before leaving the business, the offender stole a drink (along with his food order) and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

PERPETRATOR: Black male, 18-25 years of age. He was last seen wearing a black coat and dark colored pants. He was armed with a handgun.

Robbery (11/01/09 @ 0645 hours in Zone 2) The Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating a robbery, which occurred at 1172 Milford Church Road in Marietta, Georgia.

According to investigators, a male walked up to a female employee of the C.V.S. Pharmacy as she was opening the business. As the employee was opening the door, she was grabbed from behind by the male. The offender then forced the employee into the store and demanded money from her. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the perpetrator fled on foot in an unknown direction.

PERPETRATOR: Black male wearing all dark clothing. There were no injuries in either of the above crimes and anyone with information about them is asked to call (770) 499-3945.
